Ernst Ewald Martin (born January 19, 1900 in Dresden ; † July 1, 1934 there ) was a German detective. He became known as one of the victims of the so-called Röhm Putsch .

Life and activity

Martin was married to Martha Pokorny (* 1899) since 1924. The daughter Ingeborg, born on October 19, 1925, emerged from the marriage.

In the 1920s Martin can be proven with the job title "Detective" in Dresden.

Since 1934 at the latest, Martin was in charge of the personal intelligence service of the Reich governor in Saxony, Martin Mutschmann . On Mutschmann's behalf, Martin and his staff spied on the Saxon Prime Minister Manfred von Killinger and other members of the state government. According to Killinger, Martin - in whom he saw one of Mutschmann's "worst creatures" - went so far in his "machinations" as to attempt to break down government officials' desks in order to gain access to confidential information.

On June 30, 1934, Martin was arrested in the course of the Röhm affair and the following night, along with four other prisoners ( Joachim Schroedter , Otto Pietrzok , Max Schuldt and Lamberdus Ostendorp ), on the basis of an order from Berlin at the instigation of Lothar Beutel Shot by an SS command of the Political Readiness of Saxony on the Heller of the SS barracks in Dresden-Trachenberge. His death certificate states the time of his death as 4:00 a.m. Martin's body was then cremated in the Dresden-Tolkewitz crematorium.

Martin's surviving dependents received an annuity after his death, which was initially paid to them by the Reichsführung SS and later by the Ministry of the Interior.
