Ernst Ezechiel Pfeiffer (born May 14, 1831 in Stuttgart ; † March 3, 1904 there ) was a Privy Councilor in Stuttgart.

Life

Ernst Ezechiel Pfeiffer was a son of the court factor Marx Pfeiffer (1786–1842) from his third marriage. His mother Pauline, b. Wittersheim (1801–1867), was a daughter of the chief rabbi in Metz. Ernst Ezechiel Pfeiffer grew up in Pfeiffer's house on the Wilhelmsbrücke in Cannstatt , of which he was a member of the Citizens Committee from 1869 to 1873. In the 1870s he moved to Stuttgart at Kanzleistraße 24; later he lived at 63 Langen Strasse.

Ernst Ezechiel Pfeiffer was wealthy. Not only did he have the habit of distributing wheelbarrow-by-mark pieces to the poor of the town every year on the king's birthday on September 27th, but also enabled the construction of the Cannstatter Stadtbad in 1897 through a foundation. The building opened in 1900 and destroyed in an air raid in 1944. A memorial plaque in what is now the Cannstatt Mineral Baths reminds of him, as does a portrait medallion by Emil Kiemlen in the Kursaal Bad Cannstatt , which Pfeiffer also helped to improve.

In 1879 he became an honorary citizen of Cannstatt. Pfeiffer-Strasse in Cannstatt was named after Ernst Ezechiel Pfeiffer in 1889. In 1937 it was renamed Remscheider Strasse.

Similar to Ernst Ezechiel Pfeiffer, his brother Eduard Pfeiffer also bequeathed his fortune to a foundation. Pfeiffer's fortune fell to this Eduard Pfeiffer Foundation in 1917.

Ernst Ezechiel Pfeiffer was the last person to be buried in the Jewish part of the Hoppenlauf cemetery. He had been cremated in Heidelberg , at the celebration in the Hoppenlauffriedhof, Rabbi Dr. Stössl and Cannstatt's Lord Mayor Oskar Nast . The children from the Israelite orphanage in Esslingen and from the Pauline Nursing also sang .
