Ernst Gerber (politician)

Ernst Gerber (born April 18, 1904 in Planitz ; † March 16, 1976 ) was a German communist politician .

Gerber worked as a miner after elementary school and had been a member of the union since 1918. From 1920 he was a member and functionary of the communist youth association and later also of the KPD . After the National Socialists came to power, Gerber was imprisoned in a concentration camp in the Emsländer Moor until 1934 . After the Second World War he became a member of the appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1946 . In the first two regular electoral terms, Gerber was a member of the Düsseldorf parliament via the KPD's state list. The Landtag elected him a member of the first Federal Assembly , which elected Theodor Heuss as Federal President in 1949 . Here he was from 1948 to 1950 deputy chairman of the working committee. He was also a member of the municipal council of Ahlen and the district council of the Warendorf district . In addition, Gerber was also active in trade unions. In 1947/49 he was a member of the main board of IG Bergbau ; In addition, from 1946 to 1961 he was the chairman of the works council of the Westfalen colliery in Ahlen and a member of the labor court in Hamm.

According to the inventory of his estate in the Federal Archives , he appears to have been involved in founding the association of those persecuted by the Nazi regime after the war . In 1965, Gerber ran for the German Peace Union for the Bundestag , and later he was apparently a member of the DKP .
