Ernst Gustav Jäger (born May 3, 1880 in Marggrabowa , East Prussia , † 1954 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor and painter.

life and work

After graduating from high school, Jäger studied political science in Königsberg and Berlin. In addition, he also attended art history courses out of interest . After the end of his university education he sought not his field of study relevant job, but formed 1906-1910 autodidactically for artists from. In 1908 he opened his own studio in Berlin. He worked there as a freelance artist until his death. Above all, Ernst Gustav Jäger created numerous sculptures . He made most of them in bronze , some in wood . There are also paintings from his hand, which, apart from the sculptures, only make up a small part of his oeuvre. He made a name for himself primarily through his precise style and the dynamism of his sculptures, with which he recorded human movements in many cases.
