Ernst Hausleitner (born September 29, 1968 in Grieskirchen ) is an Austrian sports commentator . He is best known as a Formula 1 commentator for ORF . As the successor to Heinz Prüller , Hausleitner has been commenting and moderating the races since the 2009 season with his co-commentator Alexander Wurz or his representatives Robert Lechner and Christian Klien .

In winter, Hausleitner works as a commentator and moderator for ORF's ski broadcasts. Presentations of the program “Sport am Sonntag” and the broadcasts of the Bundesliga round off the Upper Austrian's area of ​​work at ORF. Hausleitner has so far been involved in five Olympic Games, five World Ski Championships, one World Cup and one European Football Championship for ORF.

Hausleitner, who was born in 1968 in Grieskirchen, Upper Austria, grew up in Linz and went to school there until he graduated from high school in 1988. Hausleitner did not complete a business administration course that he started at the University of Linz because of his first journalistic activity at the Kronen Zeitung . The ORF commentator made up his academic degree in 2012 by completing an MBA course with the academic degree of Master of Business Administration in addition to his professional activity.

Professional background

Between 1994 and 1995 he worked for the Kronen Zeitung in Upper Austria. Then he joined the Upper Austrian News for a year . In 1997 the journalist switched to the private television broadcaster OÖ Vision , where he was in charge of the sports department. Two years later he came to Premiere until 2000 , where he worked on Premiere World as a presenter and reporter for broadcasts of the Austrian Football League.

In 2000 he started his service at ORF. First he was Upper Austria correspondent for Ö3 and sports reporter in the Linz regional studio. Between 2002 and 2004, Hausleitner was sports editor at Ö3, since 2004 he has been working in the sports department of ORF, where he mainly comments as a reporter on Formula 1 (main commentator since 2009), alpine skiing and football events.

At the beginning of the 2009 season , Hausleitner replaced Heinz Prüller as the main commentator for the Formula 1 races on ORF.

In 2014, Ernst Hausleitner and co-commentator Alexander Wurz were awarded the Romy TV Prize in the category Most Popular Moderator - Information for broadcasting the Formula 1 races on ORF .

Private

Apart from the television cameras, Hausleitner works as a moderator of various sporting events, company presentations, employee events and trade fairs. As a certified ski instructor, Hausleitner is a passionate skier. Hausleitner also spends his free time with motocross, cycling, mountain hiking or sailing. Ernst Hausleitner has been married to the former Salzburg figure skater Nina Müller since July 2017. One month later, on August 26, 2017, the couple became parents of a son.

He is a fan of the traditional football club LASK .
