In 1871 he entered the Town Hall studio of Hermann Friedrich Waesemann one in Julius Raschdorff at the Technical University of Charlottenburg , he was assistant and later a lecturer. In 1877 he founded his own architecture office. Many of his designs are now in the architecture museum of the Technical University of Berlin . He also painted on the side. In 1894 he built a villa named after him in Woltersdorf near Berlin, which is now used as a speaker's school. In 1910 he was appointed professor in Berlin. The measurements of the Catholic Court Church in Dresden came from Stöckhardt . In the following years he created many villas and palaces as well as the interior design of the former Putbus Castle . He was particularly well known for his wells, the Gänselieselbrunnen in Göttingen , the western Angerbrunnen in Erfurt , formerly known as the “Monumentalbrunnen”, and the Moses Mendelssohn fountain monument in Dessau, the latter two of which were designed together with the sculptor Heinz Hoffmeister . He had also won the competition for the design of the Mende fountain in Leipzig in 1882, but was then disregarded.
