Ernst Jordi
Ernst Jordi (born October 7, 1945 in Zollikofen , hometown Huttwil ) is a Swiss iron sculptor and object artist
Life
After finishing primary school, Ernst Jordi initially trained as a mechanic and worked in a commercial enterprise. He attended the arts and crafts school in Bern from 1968 to 1969 and went on a two-year trip around the world the following year. In addition to his full-time activity, the first objects were made from forged iron. Jordi received his first public contract in 1976 to open the Zollikofen retirement home. The tall sculpture The Tree of Life was created according to his own statement: after almost 2,000 hours of hard work with hammer, anvil, welding device and welding torch. It represents: a way of life (tree of life), with a dominant upward movement (optimism), connected with a harmonious balance and with a focus in the middle. Numerous orders for public buildings and company buildings followed. Jordi's works have been exhibited at many solo and group exhibitions. Ernst Jordi works in his studio on Landgarbenstrasse in Zollikofen.
