Ernst Kohler

Ernst Kohler (born June 11, 1884 in Wynau ; † July 24, 1980 in Langenthal , reformed , resident in Wynau) was a Swiss entrepreneur and politician (SP) .

Life

Ernst Kohler, who was born on June 11, 1884 as the son of Jakob Kohler in Langenthal, initially trained as a mechanic , before he founded a repair workshop for knitting and sewing machines as well as bicycles in 1918 . This resulted in the bicycle factory "Kohler & Co." and in 1954 the "Textilmaschinenfabrik Kohler & Co. AG." The latter traded in knitting machines worldwide and at times had up to 50 employees. Since there was no successor and the company got into economic turmoil, operations were discontinued in 1977.

Ernst Kohler, who was married to Martha, the daughter of Adolf Geiser from Murgenthal , died in Langenthal on July 24, 1980, just after he was 96 years old.

Political career

Ernst Kohler, who together with Ernst Nobs founded the Wynau workers' association in 1909 , was elected to the local council in 1917 as the first representative of the SP in the first proportional vote in Wynau . A year later Kohler took part in the general strike . At the cantonal level, Kohler represented the SP in the Bern Grand Council from 1922 to 1925 .

He subsequently presided over the civic community from 1938 to 1947 and headed the Wynau War Economics Office from 1939 to 1945.
