Ernst Köhler (historian)

Ernst Köhler (* 1939 in Stolberg ) is a German historian and publicist .

Köhler studied German and history in Freiburg. After receiving his doctorate in 1968 ( educated middle class and national politics , Gehlen 1970), he first worked on the history of psychiatry in the 19th century. He completed his habilitation at the University of Konstanz with a thesis on the history of German psychiatry ( Arme und Irre , 1977) and took up a temporary teaching position there. After this position expired, Köhler lived from various activities as a regional historian in the Lake Constance area and as a high school teacher; at the same time he taught in Konstanz as a private lecturer in modern history until 2009 .

Köhler's current historical and journalistic focus is the history of the successor states of Yugoslavia . He publishes the results of numerous information trips and a DAAD guest lecturer at the two universities of Mostar (Bosnia) in newspaper articles, essays and lectures. As a freelancer, he writes a column with political comments for Südkurier . Occasionally Köhler also writes glosses, poems and stories about the bizarre things in his life.

Köhler is married and has two children. He lives in Constance .
