Ernst Lindemann (painter)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Lindemann (born August 14, 1869 in Rahden , † August 28, 1943 in Lüneburg ) was a German artist who mainly made sketches and painted landscape watercolors in the expressionist style.

Life

Ernst Lindemann attended the Düsseldorf School of Applied Arts in 1886 , where he was particularly influenced by Clemens Buscher . In 1888 he moved to Berlin and enrolled at the Royal Art School on Klosterstrasse. He also left this school after a year and now attended the Royal Weaving, Dyeing and Finishing School in Krefeld. After completing his apprenticeship, he went to Chemnitz as a model draftsman in 1891. Both here and in Cottbus, he broke off his activity after a short time. Finally, he applied to the wallpaper factory Penseler & Sohn in Lüneburg, where he moved in 1895. Through family ties he got in touch with the "Lüneburg Ads", for which he later wrote cultural articles. Here he was given the opportunity to write articles on theater, art and music events. His bond with the teacher Olly Pöschmann became a lifelong relationship. From Lüneburg he drove to the sea, which for him became the most important source of his motifs. In Hamburg he also got to know the works of the Brücke painters , van Goghs and Edvard Munch , which impressed him very much.
