Rafaela Ottiano

Rafaela Ottiano (born March 4, 1888 in Venice , Italy , † August 18, 1942 in East Boston , Massachusetts , USA ) was an Italian-American actress .

Life

Rafaela Ottiano worked as an actress in Europe before emigrating to the United States in 1910. She made her Broadway debut in 1924 as Mrs. Lovett in the play Sweeney Todd . In the same year she moved to Hollywood , where she could be seen in over 40 film productions until her death in 1942.

Ottiano played the character of Suzanne both in the theatrical version and in the film adaptation of the novel People in the Hotel . For the 1989 musical , the figure she portrayed was renamed Rafaela Ottiano in her honor.

Ottiano lived near Times Square during her time in New York City . She died in her parents' home in East Boston on August 18, 1942 at the age of 54 of complications from colon cancer .
