Ernst Linderoth

Ernst Linderoth (born February 1, 1916 in Bonn ; † February 3, 2016 ) was a German documentary photographer.

Linderoth completed an apprenticeship as an organ builder at the Klais company in Bonn from April 2, 1930 to September 30, 1933 . From April 1 to October 26, 1937 he did Reich Labor Service in Salmünster and then military service as a medic.

After the end of the Second World War, Linderoth worked from February 1, 1947 to December 31, 1952 as a carpenter in the Aloisius College in Bad Godesberg . On April 2, 1955, in Bonn, he passed the master craftsman's examination to become a gaming table maker and three weeks later, on April 23, the cabinet maker . From January 1, 1953, he was employed as a master carpenter in the Rheinische Landesklinik for brain injured persons in Bonn. He retired on February 1, 1979.

Linderoth made it his business to capture the changes in his hometown Bonn as precisely as possible in the picture. Over the course of 30 years, over 23,450 pictures of buildings and streets in Bonn were created. He brought Bonn closer to his fellow citizens through slide shows combined with historical stories. In 1986 Linderoth sold the first part of this unique document Bonner Geschichte to the Bonn City Archives in order to preserve it for posterity.

On his 91st birthday, he made a special gift to the city of Bonn: he gave around 18,000 photos, neatly sorted by topic in folders, to the city archive.

Linderoth's grave is in Bonn's north cemetery .
