Ernst Lorenz (born March 13, 1901 in Oggersheim , today Ludwigshafen-Oggersheim, † May 8, 1980 in Ludwigshafen ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending school, Lorenz completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith in Mannheim . He then worked in this profession and had been with BASF in Ludwigshafen since 1920 . In addition, he was a union member and chairman of the union of stokers and machinists in Ludwigshafen. During the time of National Socialism he was arrested twice, first in 1933 and then again after the unsuccessful assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 .

Lorenz had been chairman of the BASF works council since 1945, was also a member of the company's supervisory board and worked as a master locksmith. He joined the chemical, paper, ceramic union and was chairman of the union in Rhineland-Palatinate . In addition, he was a member of the expert committee for IG unbundling issues of the Federal Ministry of Economics .

Political party

Lorenz joined the Free Socialist Youth (FSJ) in 1919 and was one of the founders of the KPD in the Palatinate in the same year . In 1923 he was expelled from the party because he had not joined a communist union. He then switched to the SPD. After the Second World War he was a member of the state executive committee of the SPD Rhineland-Palatinate .

Lorenz was from 1927 to 1933 council member of the city of Oggersheim and from 1945 to 1964 council member of the city of Ludwigshafen. In 1946/47 he was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and was then a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament until 1967 .
