Ernst Mahle (music teacher)

Ernst Mahle (born January 3, 1929 in Stuttgart ) is a German-Brazilian music teacher , conductor and composer .

In Stuttgart he studied composition with Johann Nepomuk David . In 1951 he went to Brazil. There he founded the Escola de Música de Piracicaba together with his wife, the pianist Cidinha Mahle , and Professor Hans-Joachim Koellreutter in the city of Piracicaba in the state of São Paulo , which continues to this day (2008) and has a very good reputation. He worked there as artistic director and conductor of the chamber and symphony orchestra, as well as lecturer and choir director. He has been a Brazilian citizen since 1962. At the same time, he trained with Olivier Messiaen , Wolfgang Fortner and Ernst Krenek in the field of composition and with Lovro von Matačić , Raphael Kubelik and Hans Müller-Kray in conducting. He is particularly committed to music education. Thanks to his initiative, he launched the Concurso Jovens Instrumentalistas do Brasil competition that he launched in 1971 , in which young Brazilian musicians can compete every two years. In addition to numerous prizes with which he was honored, most recently the Martius Staden Prize in 2006 , he has been an honorary citizen of the city of Piracicaba since 1965. He is also a member of the Academia Brasileira de Música .
