Ernst Mantius

Ernst Friedrich Christian Johann Jacob Mantius (born October 9, 1838 in Schwerin , † October 15, 1897 in Bergedorf ) was a German politician and mayor of the city of Bergedorf .

Life

During his studies Mantius became a member of the Teutonia Jena fraternity in 1859 . In 1864 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD . He later worked as a lawyer and was mayor of the then still independent town of Bergedorf from 1882 until his death. In this role, he ensured the progressive development of the city by promoting road construction and the expansion of the sewerage system and garbage disposal, and by decreeing the construction of water and electricity works, green spaces and school buildings.

Mantius was buried in the old cemetery on Gojenbergsweg in Bergedorf. The cemetery has now been converted into a park. Old, historically important gravestones such as that of Mantius have been preserved there. After Mantius is Ernst-Mantius street in mountains village named.

His son was Georg Mantius .
