Ernst Marcello
Ernst Marcello (born July 1, 1907 in New York ; † December 3, 1976 ) was a German politician.
He was nominally mayor of Kehl from 1951 to 1960 (suspended from 1952 to 1957 and 1958 to 1960 ).
Marcello grew up in Freiburg . He was a councilor in the South Baden Ministry of the Interior. On March 4, 1951, he was elected mayor of Kehl. The election was scheduled by a separate Baden state law, as two competing mayors ruled in the city, which had not yet been completely returned by France to the Federal Republic: Karl Nückles, elected in the Sundheim district, and Fritz Stephan, appointed by the Baden government .
Marcello quickly got into conflict with the Kehler municipal council. After making offensive statements, the council demanded Marcello's resignation. But he refused, whereupon the council itself resigned. On September 13, 1952, the district office removed Marcello from office. The injunction was not lifted until January 1957 after Marcello brought a lawsuit. Until then, Fritz Koch (1952–1955) and Erich Burger (1955–1957) took over the mayor's business.
After disputes about the timing of business trips and vacation and the associated absence, he was suspended again on April 11, 1958 and represented by Trudpert Müller until the end of his nine-year term of office . This then became his official successor in 1960.
Ernst Marcello, who holds a doctorate in law, led numerous lawsuits during his time as mayor. It was mostly about his position and his salary. He won some lawsuits and lost others.
