Ernst Petzold

Ernst Gottfried Petzold (born March 27, 1930 in Leipzig ; † January 21, 2017 ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian , pastor , senior church councilor and director of the Diakonisches Werk in the GDR.

Life

Petzold attended the St. Thomas School in Leipzig and was a member of the St. Thomas Choir under Günther Ramin from 1940 to 1948 . Until the spring of 1951 he sang as a guest in the St. Thomas Choir.

After graduating from high school, he studied Protestant theology at the University of Leipzig . He worked as a pastor in Mutzschen- Ragewitz and Meißen (St. Afra). From 1965 he was head of the regional church office for internal mission and authorized representative of the aid organization of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Saxony . In 1976 he took over the position of director of the Diakonisches Werk of the Evangelical Churches in the GDR. In 1981 he was with the dissertation eschatology as impulse and as a rectification of the service of the saving love, shown in theology Johann Hinrich Wichern to Dr. theol. PhD. From 1990 to 1995 he was Vice President of the Diakonisches Werk (DW) of the Evangelical Church in Berlin. From 1988 to 1992 he was President of the International Association for Internal Mission and Diakonia (from 1989 European Association for Diakonia).
