Ernst Plagemann

Ernst Albert Ludwig Plagemann (born September 10, 1882 in Danzig , † 1953 in Berlin ) was a German entrepreneur and manager of the steel trade.

Life

After graduating from the Royal High School in Danzig in 1901, Ernst Plagemann studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg and Königsberg. In 1901 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Heidelberg . In 1904 he passed the trainee exam. In 1906 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD. From 1906 to 1907 he stayed in England for study purposes. After taking the assessor exam in 1910, he went to Paris to study for half a year. In 1911 he established himself as a lawyer in Potsdam. In 1912, after the death of his brother, he took over the management of Danziger Eisen-Handelsgesellschaft mbH as a co-owner , into which his father Franz Plagemann's company, the iron wholesale company F. Plagemann , had merged in 1903 . In 1921 he became general director of the newly founded Polish-Danzig Iron Company in Danzig. He also became CEO of Deutscher Eisenhandel AG in Berlin.

Plagemann was Royal Spanish Consul in Gdansk from 1915 to 1921 . In 1920 he was elected a member of the Gdansk Chamber of Commerce . From 1922 to 1929 he was its deputy president and in 1929 its president. In 1929 Plagemann was chairman of the Finance Council of the Free City of Danzig . In the same year he became chairman of the board of directors of the Bank of Danzig and a member of the board of directors of Danziger Privat-Actien-Bank .
