Ernst Röthig

Ernst Paul Hermann Röthig (born March 15, 1906 in Hamburg ; † May 31, 1969 there ) was a German fencer , German team champion and Olympic participant. He fought for the Hamburg fencing club .

In 1934 , Röthig took fourth place at the German championships in men's epee. In 1935 he participated as a member of the German team in two international matches in Warsaw against Poland (final score 8: 8 points) and against France in Frankfurt (final score 18.5: 6.5 points for France).

Röthig took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin in the epee singles and with the epee team. In the individual, he was eliminated in the first round as the sixth of his round. With the sword team (together with Josef Uhlmann , Siegfried Lerdon , Hans Esser , Eugen Geiwitz and Otto Schröder ) he made it to the final round. The team had to give up there but the teams from Italy, Sweden and France and finished fourth. At the German Championships in 1953 he was with the Hamburg fencing club German team champion in men's epee. From 1960 he was also the club's chairman.
