Otto Schröder (fencer)

Otto Schröder (born January 6, 1902 , † after 1937) was a German sword fencer and participant in the 1936 Olympic Games . He initially fought as a member of the Spandau Police School, and from 1937 at the latest for the SS sports community in Berlin.

At the German Championships in 1937 Schröder was fourth with the sword. With the same weapon he took the ninth German championships in 1931 and fifth place in the German championships in 1932 . At the fourth Torgau fencing tournament in 1937 he was second.

Schröder took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, where he was eliminated from the individual in the first round. With the team he narrowly missed a medal and reached fourth place together with Siegfried Lerdon , Josef Uhlmann , Hans Esser , Eugen Geiwitz and Ernst Röthig . At the World Championships in 1937 he reached the semifinals, but then lost a playoff for a place in the final. The team won against Holland, but lost to Switzerland and Italy and were eliminated in the second round.

Schröder was Obersturmführer of the SS, to which numerous successful fencers belonged at the time of National Socialism .
