Josef Uhlmann

Josef "Sepp" Uhlmann (born October 21, 1902 in Laupheim ; † July 20, 1968 there ) was a German fencer and entrepreneur. He fought for TV Ulm, which later went up in SSV Ulm in 1846 , became German champion and took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. After the Second World War , he founded a company that manufactures fencing equipment and packaging for medical products.

Life and Achievements

Josef Uhlmann fought at TV Ulm and was also active as a district fencing warden. In 1933 he had to give up this office because of a missing Aryan certificate. Nevertheless, on October 17, 1937, he joined the SS , which, at the instigation of the active saber fencer and head of the Reich Security Main Office, Reinhard Heydrich, included numerous successful fencers.

In 1936 he took part in the men's sword team competition at the Olympic Games in Berlin. Together with Eugen Geiwitz , Siegfried Lerdon , Hans Esser , Ernst Röthig and Otto Schröder , he only had to admit defeat to the teams from Italy, Sweden and France in the final round and achieved fourth place. In addition, Uhlmann won the German individual championship in epee fencing in 1937 .

In 1948 Uhlmann founded a company for packaging systems and fencing equipment. Today, Uhlmann Pac-Systeme specializes in medical packaging and made a turnover of 260 million euros in 2013. The company for fencing articles is now called Uhlmann Fechtsport .
