team
The team championships took place in Halle from October 2nd to 4th. Although the fencing association of the German Gymnastics Federation already held its own championships in August, both teams from the German Fencing Federation and teams from the Gymnastics Federation took part in the tournament. It was the first championship that fencers of the Turner Association and the German Fencing Association contested together.
Four teams took part in the foil, eight in the epee and five in the saber. In the saber and foil competitions, a round was fought in which each team competed against all others. In the epee competition there were preliminary rounds and a final round with four teams. The teams consisted of four fencers and one substitute fencer. Each fencer fought against all fencers of the other team, so that a team fight consisted of 16 individual fights. The team with the higher number of wins won. With the same number of wins, the team with fewer hits won. Five hits were fought in saber and foil, and two in sword.
