At the German Fencing Championships in 1926 , competitions in men's florets, men's epee and men's saber were held, and for the first time, in addition to the foil competition, there was another with the epee for women. Since 1926, women’s competition tournaments have been held occasionally, and some women also fought with the men, as female opponents were relatively rare compared to the women’s florets. After 1927 the number of sword tournaments for women decreased again. The individual championships took place in Erfurt , the team championships from August 27th to 29th in Frankfurt am Main . The championships were organized by the German Fencing Association . In contrast to the previous year, the German Gymnastics Federation did not hold its own championships, but took part in the individual championships in Erfurt.
