Hans Thomson

Hans Thomson (born June 14, 1888 in Offenbach ; † May 23, 1963 ibid) was a German fencer , multiple German champion and Olympic participant. He fought for FC Offenbach . His twin brother Julius was also a successful fencer.

Hans started fencing in 1906 together with his brother Julius at the age of 17 in the gymnastics department of TV Offenbach. He was trained by the successful master Arturo Gazzera and one year later he joined the fencing club Offenbach and later started at tournaments for this club. Your coach Gazzera was employed in both clubs. Like his brother Julius, Hans was heavily involved in training the next generation of fencers.

Thomson took part in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm in epee and saber singles . In both weapons he was eliminated in the second of four rounds. In Amsterdam in 1928 he again took part in the Olympic Games. There the saber team with Thomson, Erwin Casmir , Heinrich Moos and Hans Halberstadt narrowly missed a medal and came in 4th. In the saber singles, Thomson made it to the final round and took 12th place.

Thomson was German single champion in the saber in 1921 and 1929 . With the team of FC Offenbach he also won the German saber team championship in 1923 , 1924 and 1925 .
