The German fencing championships in Dresden in 1899 were the last German championships held by the German and Austrian fencing associations . The next championships did not take place until 1913 , this time with the German Fencing Association founded in 1911 as the host. Only individual championships in the weapons foil and saber were fought .

background

In 1899 a championship was held for the last time by the German and Austrian Fencing Federation . They took place from November 12th to 14th in Dresden. In 1900 the championships were canceled because of the Olympic Games, after which the federation was dissolved. Right from the start, the ideological boundaries between Austrian and German fencers were an obstacle for the association. Although no more championships were organized, it still existed until 1902. It was not until 1911 that the German Fencing Association was founded as a new umbrella organization. The connection with the Austrian Fencing Association was expressly excluded after the bad experience with the previous organization.

Results

The fight was in foil and saber singles . Team competitions were not held and there was no epee competition. In both disciplines there were separate competitions for amateurs and fencing masters. Among the amateurs, fencers from the Haudegen Vienna club won : Martin Hirsch in the foil , Richard Wimmer in the saber , who had already won the epee title in 1897 . Among the fencing masters, both competitions were won by the Berlin master Ettore Schiavoni .
