Ernst Schön (musician)

Ernst Schön (born August 6, 1907 in Vienna ; died August 6, 2010 in San Diego , California , USA ) was an Austrian musician (voice, trumpet and violin).

In 1920 Schön had his first public appearance as a boy soloist at the Vienna State Opera ; In addition to singing, he had lessons in violin and trumpet at the Vienna Music Academy. From 1923 he was assistant violinist at the State Opera Orchestra, later trumpet player, violinist and singer in popular music . For the premiere of Robert Katscher's song Wunderbar the combo The 6 Melody Makers was founded, with which recordings were made ( thank you, it was lovely ); in which Ernst Schön acted as band leader, singer and trumpeter. In the following years he appeared in the Kammerspiele, as a musician in bars, restaurants and hotels in Austria and abroad. He also played as a trumpeter with the Marek Weber band , appeared on radio broadcasts ( Der singende Geiger ) and made recordings for Viennese and Prague record companies.

After the annexation of Austria , Ernst Schön went into exile in Asia, where he worked as a dance bandmaster in Malaysia and played chamber music in Singapore . In 1941 Ernst Schön went to the United States, where he continued to work successfully as a musician. a. as a soloist with the San Francisco Opera Company and as the leader of an Army band. After 1945 he worked as a studio musician for film scores and appeared in nightclubs in Hollywood, also with the Utah State Symphony Orchestra. From 1955 he worked as musical director of the television show by Ilona Massey and musician in restaurants and nightclubs in New York. Most recently Schön lived in San Diego.
