Ilona Massey (born June 16, 1910 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary , as Ilona Hajmássy , † August 20, 1974 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American actress .

Career

She began her career in Germany in 1935 as Ilona Hajmássy at the side of Heinz Rühmann in Der Himmel auf Erden . In 1937 she went to Hollywood and starred alongside stars like Peter Lorre , Basil Rathbone , Eleanor Powell and George Brent . She had her greatest success in 1949 in the Marx Brothers film Love Happy .

In 1959 the actress withdrew into private life. Ilona Massey was married four times: her first marriage to actor Charles Walker, from 1935 to 1936 to Nick Szavazd, to actor Alan Curtis from 1941 to 1942 and from 1955 to her death from cancer in 1974, at the age of 64, with Maj. Gen. Donald Dawson.
