Ernst Trenkler

Ernst Trenkler (born August 7, 1902 in Vienna ; † February 4, 1982 there ) was an Austrian art historian and librarian .

Ernst Trenkler studied art and music history as well as classical archeology at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate there on May 7, 1926 under Josef Strzygowski . He then volunteered at the Art History Museum in the picture gallery and the library. From 1930 he worked as a librarian at the Austrian National Library , where he became director of the print collection and the map collection.
