Ernst Unger (born December 15, 1915 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 25, 2011 in Überlingen ) was a German general practitioner and professional medical officer .

Life

Born as the son of a doctor specializing in internal and nervous diseases, after attending school and graduating from high school in Berlin in 1934, he began studying medicine, first in Bern, then in Munich, where he passed the state examination in 1940. Because his father was Jewish, he was not allowed to do a doctorate or work as a doctor. After nine months of work in a medical unit of the Wehrmacht, Ernst Unger was dismissed because of his parentage. Until the spring of 1943 he worked as a sports teacher and office assistant at a private school and then worked in agriculture in a small rural community near Überlingen. After the war he initially worked as a doctor at the municipal hospital in Überlingen until he settled as a general practitioner in 1948 in Heiligenholz in the Überlingen district. In 1954 he moved to Überlingen, where he worked as a general practitioner until 1989.

From 1981 to 1991 Ernst Unger was President of the District Medical Association of South Württemberg. From 1990 he was elected chairman of the ethics committee of the Baden-Württemberg State Medical Association.
