Ernst Zeno Ichenhäuser

Ernst Zeno Ichenhäuser (born June 3, 1910 in Olching near Munich ; † January 21, 1998 in Berlin ) was a German writer and journalist.

Life

Ernst Zeno Ichenhäuser was the son of the Jewish painter and writer Auguste (Guste) Ichenhäuser. He grew up in Munich, was baptized as a Catholic, but was listed as "free religious" in the registers of his high school days. In the school year 1920/21 he entered the 1st class of the Maximiliansgymnasium in Munich, where he successfully passed the Abitur examination in 1929. He studied national economy (national economy) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and joined the communist movement here in 1929. He was a member of the KJVD and the KPD . He continued his studies with Alfred Weber and Werner Sombart at the Berlin Humboldt University . He worked as a primary school teacher and since 1932 in the youth work of the KPD in Berlin. After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he was arrested in 1933 and the prison Plötzensee spent. Released in 1935, he went to Prague with his mother . There he joined the emigre organization Free German Youth in 1938 . Auguste Ichenhäuser was arrested and deported; she died in 1943 in the Theresienstadt concentration camp . Ernst Zeno Ichenhäuser managed to escape to England, was interned in 1940 as an " enemy foreigner " and deported to Canada for a year. After returning to London, he worked there as a craftsman. At the same time he worked as an editor for the newspaper of the Free German Youth. In 1942 he took part in an international youth conference in London.

Together with his wife Anneliese he went from London to East Berlin in 1946 , where he was editor of the magazine "die neue schule" and then head of the magazine " Elternhaus und Schule ", while his wife gave German language lessons to Russian officers and, since 1950, also worked as a journalist. He was a member of the SED .

After reunification, Ichenhäuser joined the PDS .

Ichenhäuser wrote politically and socially committed articles for magazines and books for young people and adults that were published in the GDR. His life story If possible - honest was published in 1997 in Berlin and has been reprinted several times.
