Ernstroda is a district of the city of Friedrichroda in the Thuringian district of Gotha .

geography

Ernstroda, laid out as a street village , is located on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest northeast of Friedrichroda . Districts are Ernstroda and Cumbach . The place is located in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park , directly at the foot of the Eichberg (396.9 m above sea level) rising to the southwest . The reed water stream flows through the location . This stream rises immediately to the north of the Rennsteig on the north edge of the small hunting Bergs (726 m above sea level. NN) km approximately 712 m height 4 southwest of Friedrichroda, meanders along the L 1026 by the cool valley and arrives at the passage between geese tip and Gottlob on the building boundary of Friedrichroda. After passing through the city, it flows through Ernstroda and flows into the Leina about 1 km after the end of the village. Since its source, the creek has brought a difference in altitude of about 380 m and a distance of 11 km behind it. The L 1025 (Waltershausen - Georgenthal) leads through Ernstroda, onto which the K 14 from Friedrichroda joins in the center of the village and leaves the village a little further north in the direction of Cumbach.

history

The place was first mentioned around 1200 as the property of the Reinhardsbrunn monastery . The old spellings of the place name were Erphisrot and Ersrode , the place name means roughly cleared property and gives clues to the development of the place as a clearing settlement. At the beginning of the 15th century, the place was granted the right to tap and brew, which led to a dispute with the towns of Waltershausen and Friedrichroda , who feared competition .

After the dissolution of the Reinhardsbrunn monastery in 1525, the place belonged to the ruling office of Reinhardsbrunn , which from 1640 belonged to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha , from 1672 to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and from 1826 to the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . An important historical line of business in Ernstroda was the haulage , which experienced its decline in the 19th century due to the construction of roads and railways. After that, the majority of the inhabitants were active in the wood and toy industry as well as in hose weaving.

On July 1, 1950, Cumbach was incorporated. In 1977 Ernstroda joined the Friedrichroda municipal association, and in 2007 it was incorporated.

Attractions

The most striking sight is the village church of St. Katharina from 1599. The older church tower of the previous building was included in the construction of the church. The tower's ground floor has a groin vault . In 1817 a new organ from the Ratzmann organ builder in Ohrdruf was installed. On July 19, 1990, construction work on the tower was finished, which was celebrated with a button festival. A year later the radio-controlled tower clock was put into operation. The church contained an organ made by the organ builder Rudolf Böhm from Gotha in 1980.

politics

The last honorary mayor before the incorporation was Frank Schuchardt (CDU / BL).
