Erol Yıldız

Erol Yıldız (* 1960 in Samsun , Turkey ) is a sociologist , specialist author and editor of publications on intercultural and migration- sociological issues. Born in Turkey, he was a senior teacher at the Institute for Comparative Educational Research and Social Sciences, Sociology Department at the University of Cologne . Since summer 2008 he has been working at the Institute for Educational Science and Educational Research at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt , Faculty of Cultural Studies, where he is a member of the Institute Conference of the Institute for Educational Science and Educational Research.

Career

Yıldız grew up in his hometown, where he also graduated from high school in 1978. In the following year he went to Cologne in order to be able to start studying at the university there after a German course, first in the preparatory college , then philosophy with pedagogy and sociology as a minor , from 1984 pedagogy as a major and sociology and psychology as a minor. In 1990, Yıldız worked for a while as a teacher for intercultural youth work at the German Family Association in Cologne. Scientific activities such as the seminar for social sciences brought him back to the University of Cologne in 1992. In 1996 Yildiz did his doctorate there on the subject of halved postmodernism. Problems of the minority discourse taking into account alternative approaches in the Netherlands in the subject sociology. After that, three years of research work in a project on the topic of “Urban Multiculturalism”. From 1999 work as a research assistant at the educational science faculty of the university, after his habilitation in 2005 in the subject of sociology on the subject of life in the cosmopolitan modern age: The opening of places to the world as a teacher in the university service. In addition, Yıldız has been a lecturer at the University of Hamburg since 2000, where he took on a substitute professorship for intercultural education in the educational science department in the 2005 summer semester . In the 2006 summer semester, another substitute professorship followed in Cologne. Since March 2014 Yildiz has been teaching at the Institute for Educational Sciences at the University of Innsbruck with a focus on "Migration and Education".

Since the end of the 90s he has been the author of a number of book publications and numerous academic articles as well as editing, u. a. in relation to the intercultural studies series at Leske + Budrich / VS-Verlag, of which he has been co-editor since 2002.

He is a member of the Migration Council .
