Ervin László

Ervin László [ ˈɛrvin ˈlaːsloː ] (* 1932 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian philosopher of science , systems theorist and author. He is President of the Club of Budapest, which he founded, and a member of the World Academy of Arts and Science .

László deals with questions of metaphysics and ontology and is considered an important representative of systems theory , general evolutionary theory and integral theory as well as philosophy , futurology and aesthetics .

Although he places part of his theses in the physical context of a "Great Unified Theory" , his writings are not cited in the physical context. His theses cannot therefore be understood as physical-scientific standpoints.

Ervin László started out as a pianist. In 1947, at the age of fifteen, he took part in the Concours International de Musique in Geneva and took one of the top places. The American record company RCA has produced at least one album with him on which László interprets piano works by Sibelius. László recorded works by Liszt for radio at NDR Hamburg in the sixties.

László is the author of several books and numerous publications in international journals and magazines. He is the editor of the quarterly World Futures - The Journal of General Evolution and the book series World Futures General Evolution Studies , as well as co-editor of Behavioral Science and the four-volume peace encyclopedia World Encyclopedia of Peace . In 1993 László founded the Club of Budapest Foundation , which sees itself as a future workshop for global issues.

His work on mind and consciousness, as well as morphogenetics , also deals with a "Great Unified Theory". He also refers to the physicist Stephen W. Hawking , although László's theories have little in common with the great unified theory of physics. He expands the unification of the four known elementary forces striven for in physics by a fifth field, which he calls the Psi field or A field.

In his work on a holistic worldview (“The Fifth Field”, “Holos”, and “At Home in the Universe”) Ervin László propagates the idea of this fundamental new field, which is intended to explain both quantum physical and numerous parapsychological phenomena. This A-field is supposed to represent a kind of cosmic memory ( Akashic Chronicle ), in which, in addition, in a non-local way through torsion fields and scalar waves, faster-than-light information transfer in the quantum vacuum is to take place. The German physicist Christian Sämann considers László's arguments in the field of the natural sciences to be invalid , weak or not mandatory , despite a positive attitude towards his work .

In his books, Ervin László also criticizes the Darwinian theory of evolution as “insufficient explanation” and draws heavily on the arguments of the intelligent design movement (e.g. Michael Behe ).

With regard to the explanation of the phenomenon of consciousness , Ervin László advocates a variant of panpsychism and neutral monism (substance monism with dualism of properties), in contrast to purely physicalistic interpretations such as Daniel Dennett . Contrary to some other representatives of integral thinking , such as B. Ken Wilber , however, Ervin László clearly speaks out against the idea of an immortal soul or a life after death .
