Erwin Amend
Erwin Amend (born August 12, 1919 in Weilburg ; † June 4, 1997 in Mainz ) was a German composer and concertmaster .
Life
Erwin Amend studied music at the Frankfurt University of Music and from 1939 worked as concertmaster of the Frankfurt Chamber Orchestra. This was followed from 1947 to 1950 as concert master at the Stadttheater Gießen , 1950–55 with the spa orchestra in Baden-Baden and in Motola (Sweden). From 1956 until his retirement in 1979 he was concert master of the Mainz Municipal Theaters (today Mainz State Theater ).
During his five years in Baden-Baden he founded the Baden-Baden String Quartet.
His oeuvre comprises more than 200 compositions of various genres. A focus is on compositions for chamber music, symphonic works as well as stage and film music. Through a warm friendship with Paul Hindemith , he had a great influence on Erwin Amends compositional work.
In addition to composing, he also devoted himself to music-historical work.
