Erwin Stenzel
Erwin Stenzel (born June 28, 1921 in Stuttgart ; † March 20, 2017 in Bielefeld ) was a German neurologist and epileptologist .
Life
After studying human medicine in Halle, Berlin and Freiburg with state examinations in 1947 - which was interrupted several times by war missions in Russia and Italy as well as by an injury - Stenzel was from 1948 an assistant at the University Psychiatric Clinic Freiburg with a focus on neurology (with Richard Jung ), where he later built up the neuroradiology department.
From 1955 he was a senior physician in Bethel-Bielefeld (with Rudolf Dreyer ), a. a. with a neuroradiological focus in the "admission clinic". Air or pneumoencephalography (PEG) was an essential procedure in cerebral imaging at that time before the introduction of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance tomography (MRT ).
From 1961 Stenzel was senior physician in charge and from 1971 to 1985 - as the successor to Dreyer and Peter Wolf's predecessor - senior physician at the Mara I clinic and chief physician in the epilepsy area of the von Bodelschwinghschen Anstalten (foundation since 2010) Bethel in Bielefeld.

Erwin Stenzel was a "clinic manager and doctor with a high personal presence, a father figure in the best sense of the word for all clinic employees, modest in his demeanor and always oriented towards the needs of the patient in his actions," which is also reflected in the implementation of psychologists, Occupational therapists and social workers in the inpatient care offer manifested.
His scientific focus was a. the clinical value of anti- epileptic tests in the blood, the late-onset Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and the “comprehensive care” for epilepsy .
Stenzel was u. a. from 1975 to 1989 member of the Königsteiner working group for epileptology (chairman from 1986 to 1989)
