Erwin Strohbusch

Erwin Strohbusch (born September 8, 1904 in Berlin ; † 1980 ) was a German shipbuilding engineer and professor of shipbuilding .

Life

After graduating from high school, Strohbusch worked at Vulkan-Werke in Stettin ( AG Vulcan Stettin ), Blohm + Voss in Hamburg and the Wilhelmshaven naval shipyard (1922 to 1927). From 1923 to 1929 he studied shipbuilding at the Technical University Berlin-Charlottenburg, (today Technical University Berlin ) and received his doctorate there in 1931.

His subsequent professional career was initially shaped by activities in naval management and then in the maintenance and conversion of large ships in the navy. This was followed by employment as a department head at the German mine clearance service (1945 to 1946) and at the engineering office for fishing vessels ( Friedrich Romberg 1946 to 1950).

In 1950 he was appointed to the Technical University of Berlin . First he worked there as a lecturer for fishing vessels, later (1953 to 1957) as an associate professor for the field of ship elements and from 1957 as a full professor for "practical shipbuilding". From 1965 the chair was renamed to "Designing Ships".

Until Strohbusch's retirement in 1972 and beyond that until his final resignation in 1974, he worked as a professor for “ship design” and “ship elements”.
