Masaru Satō

Masaru Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 勝 , Satō Masaru ; born May 29, 1928 in Rumoi ; † December 5, 1999 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese film composer .

Satō began writing film scores as an assistant to Fumio Hayasaka in the early 1950s . After his death in 1955 he took over his orders for Akira Kurosawa's balance sheet of a life and Kenji Mizoguchi's The Samurai Tribe of the Taira . So he was able to conclude a contract with the Toho company , for which Satō commented musically on over 200 films and worked until his death.

He became known through his work for some Godzilla films such as Godzilla Returns (his first independent score), Frankenstein and the Monsters from the Sea or Frankenstein's monsters chasing Godzilla's son . In addition, he was u. a. responsible for the compositions for Irezumi - The Tattooed Woman , Yojimbo - The Bodyguard and The Shogun's Shadow . His work processes western influences and light jazz arrangements.

Satō was nominated twelve times for the Japanese Academy Award and won it four times.
