Eryck Abecassis

Eryck Abecassis (born October 26, 1956 in Algiers ) is a French composer .

Life

Eryck Abecassis learned electric guitar in self-study from 1973 . In 1976 he went to study film studies at the Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français in Paris and worked as a photographer . In 1979 he chose music. From 1979 to 1983 he took private lessons in composition and harmony with Julien Falk (1902–1987). In 1982 he studied jazz orchestration with Derryl Hall at the Center d'informations musicales in Paris. 1983 took various courses at IRCAM , including in instrument research and computer music . He took lessons with Jean-Claude Risset and in 1994 with Pascal Dusapin at the Center Acanthes . In 1997 he took the Cursus Annuel de Composition et Informatique Musicale at IRCAM.

From 1986 to 1992 he was the director of the theater academy L'Entreprise

He has received several commissions from Radio France , the French and Canadian governments , Gmem , Ina-Grm , Grame , and Césaré . His music has been performed at various international music festivals such as Présences , Les Musiques-Marseille , Musiques en scènes-Lyon , Amplitude Festival Denmark Escales Improbables , Electricity , Reims Scènes d'Europe , IRCAM , SignalX-Cagliari and the Computer Art Festival Padova . He has given his electronic music concerts in Spain , Brazil , Germany , Austria , the United Kingdom , Sweden , South Korea and Italy .

Eryck Abecassis wrote orchestral, chamber and vocal music in various formations, music for the theater and film music for the cinema, television films and documentaries. He also worked on installations and live programs. His music style can be assigned to contemporary music , electronic music , and noise .

  • Poupées-Fantômes, for piano, percussion, live electronics and video, commissioned by GRAME, Lyon, composed and premiered in 2003
  • Phaz 2 , for string orchestra and electronics. The work was performed by the Quatuor Diotima at the radio festival Presences 2006.

  • Safety First, a Noise Opera , music and conception: Eryck Abecassis, text: Olivia Rosenthal , performed at the Festival Reims Scènes d'Europe 2013 in Reims
  • Noisindia, multimedia perfomance, text and speaker: Olivia Rosenthal. The work was written during the composer's three-month stay in India and Bangladesh . He uses sound and film material from Alang and Chittagong . The work was performed on March 5, 2014 in the Maison de la Poésie in Paris.

  • Chrysalide, solo program of electronic music, live concert recorded by Radio France on April 26, 2015
  • Ilumen , seven pieces of electronic music, published on the Entr'acte label , 2015. Abecassis worked on the album for two years. The main instrument he uses is a chrysalide, a modular synthesizer. He coupled this with an electric bass and a computer.
  • Spin, for gamelan and electronics. The work was performed on November 5, 2015 in Marseille.
  • Under desert , forty-five minute piece for modular synthesizers, recorded in the Atelier de l'Etoile Besançon on April 9, 2016
  • In loco parentis, film music, 2016
  • Macadam Animal , text and speaker: Olivia Rosenthal, video and music: Eryc Abecassis. Olivia Rosenthal and Abecassis are going on tour with this program in 2018 with performances at various theaters and cultural institutions in France. It is a program about animals in the city with biological, ethological and ecological aspects.
