features

The slim, bluish shimmering black abdomen of E. andagoya in adult specimens is between 19 and 22 millimeters in length for males and 17 to 20.5 millimeters for females. In young animals, segments one and two are yellowish brown. Three to eight are brownish black with a yellowish mark on each segment. Segments nine through ten are black. The abdominal appendages also change color from yellow to black as they develop. The thorax is black with a bluish tinge. In young animals, the side of the thorax is yellow and initially turns reddish brown before turning black. The hind wings reach lengths between 21.5 and 24.5 millimeters for the males and 20 to 24.5 for the females. The wings are transparent, or at the wing tips of the females partially tinted minimally brown. There is a dark brown to yellowish spot at the base of both pairs of wings. In older animals, the veins in the stain turn white.

It is more difficult to distinguish the type of Erythrodiplax kimminsi , as this can only be done via the structure of the genitals .
