Erythrodiplax avittata is a species of dragonfly from the subfamily Sympetrinae . The species is proven in Brazil . The larva has not yet been described. The specific epithet is derived from the absence of the lateral spots on the forehead thatdelimitthe type of Erythrodiplax basalis .

Colored male representatives of the Erythrodiplax avittata have a blue-black basic color and, like the females, an average of 18 millimeters long, slender abdomen . The second and front halves of the third abdominal segment are covered with a light blue dust, which is also found on the back of the chest ( thorax ). The other segments up to the seventh are also lightly pollinated. The abdominal appendages are black and resemble those of the Erythrodiplax basalis . The abdomen of the females is yellowish brown and black only on the underside and along the dorsal keel. The dorsal ligament widens in the eighth and ninth segments.

While the thorax of the males is bluish black with light blue pollination, in the females it is greenish brown in the rear part of the sides and dark brown in front and dorsal. On the transparent wings there is a small dark brown spot in the area of ​​the attachment, which is very faint, especially in the front wing. In the hind wing an average of 20.5 millimeters long in both sexes, it extends to the first antenodal vein .

In the face, the males are black and the females are greenish brown. The forehead of the females is only slightly darker, whereas that of the males is bright metallic blue. The vertex of the males is yellowish brown.
