features
Adult males of the Erythrodiplax branconensis have a black, slightly metallic blue thorax and abdomen . The latter measures around 16 millimeters. The abdominal appendages are also black . The legs are pure black.
In the lead-gray face, the forehead ( frons ) and the parietal bladder are blue with a strong metallic sheen. The upper lip ( labrum ) is yellowish white, the lower lip ( labium ) white with a broad black central stripe.
While the forewings are completely transparent and veined with black, the 21.5 millimeter measuring rear wings have a tiny basal spot.
Similar species
Most similar to the Erythrodiplax branconensis are the Erythrodiplax basalis , and the Erythrodiplax minuscula . The species differs from the former in particular in the expression of the basal wing spot, from the latter in particular in the coloring of the face. Furthermore, some sources put the species synonymous with Erythrodiplax bromeliicola , but this is not generally recognized.
