Erythrodiplax fervida is a species of dragonfly from the subfamily Sympetrinae . It occurs in Cuba , the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica and Puerto Rico . She also performs from Mexico to Ecuador and Guyane .

Hind wings of a male

The animal reaches a length of 32 to 36 millimeters, of which 19 to 24 millimeters are on the abdomen . Erythrodiplax fervida is initially brown in color, but turns dark brown with increasing age; black in some places, such as the top of the frons . The large yellow spots on the side of the abdominal segments two to seven also change color as they mature and become red. The hind wings are between 22 and 28 mm long and, like the forewings, have a round brown spot at the base, which is still yellow in young animals.

Habitat

The habitat consists of ponds with emersed vegetation which occasionally can also be in forests , but mostly in pastureland. The animal also chooses creeks located there as a habitat.
