Erythrodiplax maculosa is a species of dragonfly in the genus Erythrodiplax from the subfamily Sympetrinae .

Construction of the Imago
The lips, the front end of the mouthparts, the so-called labrum , the back of the head, the anteclypeus , the thorax , the abdomen and the legs are black. The postclypeus, however, is yellow. Like the vertex, the forehead is metallic blue-black, with two yellow spots on the forehead to the left of the compound eyes . The wings are transparent except for a small shadow on the front and a large shadow on the hind wing. The pterostigma is ashen yellow. the front wing reaches a length of about 17 mm and a width of 5 mm, whereas the rear wing reaches a length of 16.5–17.5 mm and a width of 5.5 mm. The pterostigma of the fore wing is 1.8 to 2.1 mm long. The abdomen reaches a length of 13 to 15 mm.
Construction of the larva
The larva has a hairless body except for the prothorax . The head is longer than the thorax with four notches on the lower jaw. The molar tooth formula is (2-4), but always without a molar dam. The third segment of the antennae is the longest. The paired side plates (ventrolateral plates) of the eleventh abdominal segment , the so-called paraproct , are smooth when viewed from the side.
