While the young animals are still yellowish in color with a touch of olive, the adults become brownish to reddish brown with age (both the body and the wings). The face is yellowish to reddish in the males and brownish in the females. The base of the wings of the males is ocher colored, which gives the species its name. The males reach abdomen lengths between 19 and 24.5 millimeters, the females, however, only 18 to 23 millimeters. The length of the hind wing is 23.5 to 29 millimeters in the males and 24 to 28.5 millimeters in the females.
