history

chapel

Originally there was a Renaissance house ( Gryspekovský dům ) on this site , which Emperor Ferdinand I acquired from Count Florian Griespek von Griespach in 1562 and gave as a residence to Archbishop Anton Brus von Müglitz of Prague , the first archbishop after the Hussite movement . In the years 1562–1564 the archbishop had the building rebuilt by Bonifaz Wohlmut and Ulrico Aostalli . The chapel was added in 1599. 1669–1679 the three-winged building was rebuilt in the early Baroque style by the French builder Jean Baptiste Mathey . Among other things, the magnificent portal in the central wing of the building comes from this. In 1722–1725, the final fourth wing of the building was built by the builder Paul Ignaz Bayer . In 1764–1765 the building received its last major redesign. It was redesigned inside and out by the builder Johann Joseph Wirch in the Rococo style. Both the facade and the interior of the building have only been changed slightly in many parts since then.
