history

The race was included in the DRSV calendar for the first time in 1954. Several times it had the character of a selection race in the GDR performance class to determine the team for the UCI road world championships . It usually took place in July or August.

The greatest difficulties of the mountain course were the Einsiedler Berg and the Wolkenstein ascent . In 1954 the Ore Mountains Tour was also held as the GDR road race championship, Gustav-Adolf Schur won with a five-minute lead over Detlef Zabel and Benno Funda .

The race was later re-organized by the Chemnitz Police Sports Association (CPSV) as a cycle race for recreational athletes.
