from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's raining, it's raining is a well-known German language children's song from the 19th century. The song exists in different text versions and is sung on different melodies, including a version as a canon by Carl Friedrich Zelter . A three-part canon in the cantata Cuckoo from all over the world published by Fidula-Verlag, Stuttgart 1953 comes from Felicitas Kukuck .

content

In the first stanza it is described that it is raining and the earth is getting wet and it is noted as an advantage of the rain that grass will grow again. The second stanza explains that it would rain its course and when it has rained enough it will stop. The final third stanza asks what we care that it rains, since we are sitting in the dry and thus do not get wet.

reception

The song is sung in kindergartens and elementary schools.

text

1st stanza
It's raining, it's raining, the earth is getting wet!
And when it has rained enough, grass will grow again!

2nd stanza
It's raining, it's raining, it's raining its course!
And when it has rained enough, it stops again!

3rd verse
It's raining, it's raining, what do we care!
We sit dry and don't get wet!

Wilhelm Grimm created a text version for Clemens Brentano that was included in Des Knaben Wunderhorn :

Good appetite

It's raining, God bless,
The sun is shining,
the moon whines,
Pfaff sits encouraging store
Eats all the stockade!
The nun goes to the inn,
and drinks all of her glasses.
