Escapade is a 1990 Janet Jackson song written and produced by her, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis . It appeared on the Rhythm Nation album in 1814 .

history

Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis came up with the song after the word of the title was mentioned in a conversation and decided it was going to be an interesting, potential hit. "Usually we first come up with the music and then we imagine the text that goes with the music." Jam said, "And we thought escapade was a cool word. It's kind of old-fashioned - people don't really say," Let's get it going, but it really worked on the song ".

As inspiration served Nowhere to Run by Martha and the Vandellas in 1965, the Jackson originally wanted to covers, but instead on the advice of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis recorded a new song. Based on the advice, the trio tinkered with an anthem-style song and this fell on Escapade, which was also one of the first recorded songs on the album. Jam also described the production and recording process, saying, "While she (Janet Jackson) was sitting in a room with the lyrics, I put the multitrack recorder ready. We added the drum machine. To my left was the bass and to my right the bass Chord and it was just enough for her to sing which we did a lot. We wanted her to sing as often as possible to better fill in the vocal parts and also to experiment. With Escapade she sang it and we said we We'll take it ... and leave it at that. There's a keyboard bass and some more, that's it. All we added was overdubs, bells ... because we got so used to the feeling of the recording Mistakes and left everything around them as they were ".

Escapade has a time signature of A flat major . Jackson's vocals range from A ♭ 3 to E ♭ 5. The song has an average dance groove tempo of 115 beats per minute , with the chord progression set to Am – E – Gb .

The song was released on January 8, 1990, and became a number one hit in the United States and Canada. The song corresponds to the music genres R&B , dance pop and New Jack swing .

Janet Jackson sang the song on all of her tours: The 1990 Rhythm Nation World Tour and the State of the World Tour in full length and as part of medleys: Janet World Tour , The Velvet Rope Tour , All for You Tour , Rock Witchu Tour , Number Ones, Up Close and Personal and Unbreakable World Tour .

Many artists draw their influence from the song Escapade because of the optimistic pace and happy feeling. Britney Spears said that this song was the inspiration for her Britney Jean album because of and also the Rhythm Nation 1814 album , stating, "I wanted to recreate some of Janet's greatest moments that she had and the whole era. I just wanted one Have loads of up-tempos that are just great energy and fun. "
