Escher - The MDR counselor (mostly just called Escher ) was a counseling program on MDR television . From 1995 to 2013, the ARD broadcaster broadcast the format hosted live by Peter Escher every Thursday at 8:15 p.m. The broadcaster sees the moderator as an “advocate for the common people”.

Until the end of 2007, the show was entitled Ein Fall für Escher . At the beginning of 2008, production was taken over by META Productions , headed by Ulrich Meyer . Due to trademark disputes with the previous producer ( creatv Fernsehproduktions GmbH, managed by Hans Meiser ), the program had to be renamed "Escher - Der MDR-Ratgeber" after the takeover.

The 45-minute programs were initially produced in Dresden and since 2000 in Leipzig in the MDR studios. In 2007 studio audience was introduced. In the same year, the program began to be produced alternately in all three MDR state broadcasters in order to demonstrate closer proximity to the audience. However, this was discontinued at the beginning of 2008. An integral part of the program were experts such as B. consumer advocates or lawyers who were asked about current issues. In previous broadcasts, questions from viewers by telephone were also answered live on the broadcast.

Since the takeover by META Productions , it has been clearly observed that the studio parts of the show have been increasingly displaced by contributions and film parts. The program developed from a guidebook and question answer to a reporting magazine format.

The last edition of the guide was broadcast on November 28, 2013. From spring 2014, Peter Escher received a new series of reports produced by the MDR.
