Esclangon is an impact crater on the northeastern front of the Moon between Sinus Amoris and Lacus Bonitatis , northeast of Hill crater and west of Macrobius .
The inside of the crater was flooded by lavas and is therefore flat, the rim of the crater only appears as a flat, soft ridge.
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the French astronomer and mathematician Ernest Esclangon .
